Traditional and contemporay land-based teachings

Passing on Knowledge to FUTURE Generations

    Description Of Workshops

Kikiwak’s team is an assortment of educators, traditional knowledge keepers, and artists. We have created a culturally sensitive curriculum for schools from a First Nations perspective.

We want to ensure our traditional knowledge and teachings are transferred to the next generation, which will enrich children from all nations.

Participants will come to the land to learn traditional knowledge. To Teach them the importance of respecting the land, water, and all life forms.

The workshops are on the land, through zoom and the online video reference library.

One of the educational components consists of alternative energy and sustainable building methods. We teach traditional and contemporary gardening, sustainable land development techniques, recycling, and the importance of reusing items.

Some examples: Alternative homes built from cob, rammed earth, recycled items, and aircrete. Working with green-friendly energy. Such as solar, wind, and water to generate electricity. Sharing vertical gardening systems that produce large amounts of food in a small space for people who live in urban centers.

Another component is passing down traditional knowledge, arts and crafts, hunting, and gathering traditional foods, harvesting medicines, necessary preparations, and proper storage techniques.

Our workshops encourage and share traditional teachings such as sweat lodge ceremonies, medicine wheel teaching, Coming of age ceremonies, and others.

We also promote healthy living by eating well, natural medicines, exercising, meditation and yoga.

We are incorporating the history and teachings of Turtle Island from a First Nation's standpoint. We believe the path to healing and reconciliation is through our youth. The children are our future leaders and decision-makers.

The transfer of knowledge will help children from all nations around Mother Earth to better understand our history and how to  live more sustainably.

It is essential to work with our fellow human beings putting religious and cultural barriers aside at this time in history. So we can begin to heal Mother Earth.
