Kikiwak would like to acknowledge the elders of North America who fought off the effects of colonization, assimilation, and the residential school system. We are grateful that they kept our teachings, language, art, and culture alive to be passed on to future generations.
Kikiwak was formed in 2020 by a group of like-minded individuals who all have an indigenous lineage. Kiwiwak's board members consist of knowledge keepers, educators, and well-established artists. They share a common goal to advocate and help in the struggle many rural and urban communities across North America are plagued with. Families are struggling with rising costs; housing shortages; having access to nutritious food; safe clean water; and affordable energy to heat their homes.
One of our goals is to bring awareness to those issues through our social media networks, video streaming platforms, and video library on our website. We also have as objectives, to create projects, events, and workshops, and to develop research that ensures that future generations live full, enriched, sovereign, extraordinary, and prosperous lives.
We believe one of the keys to healing is the connection to the land. By holding workshops on sustainable land and building practices, and sharing our traditional knowledge, ceremonies, language, and art forms we will achieve our vision for the next generations. These teachings will instill confidence and pride in First Nations Youth and all who participate. We are open to sharing our teachings with all nations of Mother Earth.
We know how vital it is at this time to promote the completion of the Medicine Wheel. This represents bringing the four races of Mother Earth back together to work in unison so we can find world peace. We need to heal our mother from the devastating effects of resource extraction and the unsustainable way of life we, as a society, have become accustomed to.
Our children are our future. Through education on regenerative land development and management, researching and implementing innovative technologies, we can lighten our reliance on old systems, create innovative techniques, and begin to heal Mother Earth in the way of wahkohtowin, "living in a good way".
